When Mobile Wheel Balancing Is The Right Call

From a long-haul motorway run with a high-speed shake, to a fresh set of tyres fitted elsewhere that never seated properly, to an EV with heavier wheels producing a seat vibration, each scenario below is a routine mobile balance job. Find the one that matches and see what we do on arrival.

Vibration Above 60 mph

Steering wheel judder on the motorway that worsens as you speed up. A front wheel imbalance eight times out of ten. We balance the front pair first on a calibrated machine and road-test to confirm the shake is gone.

50 to 60

Vibration Between 50 And 60 mph

Felt through the seat or the floor rather than the wheel, which usually points to a rear wheel imbalance. We balance the rear pair and inspect each wheel for a weight that has been thrown off at speed.

Our van carries a calibrated balancer, lead-free zinc weights, run-flat tooling and a hub-centric mounting kit. We work on a clean mat beside your car, balance each wheel, refit and torque to spec, then move to the next. A full set is done in 45 to 60 minutes.

On Arrival

Diagnose And Dismount

A visual inspection, we confirm the vibration speed band if the car is driveable, check tyre pressure, then dismount each wheel onto a protective pad and mark its original position for the direction of rotation.

On The Balancer

Calibrate And Balance

We mount the wheel with a hub-centric cone, enter the rim diameter and width, run a spin test, apply lead-free weights at the calculated clock positions, then re-spin to confirm the balance is within a 5 gram per axis tolerance.

Before We Leave

Refit And Torque To Spec

We clean the mounting face, refit the wheel in its original rotation direction, torque the bolts to the manufacturer specification (90 to 160 Nm by vehicle), reset tyre pressure monitoring if needed, and confirm on a short road test where possible.

How long does balancing take?
